State of Nature emerged out of the Boston area in January 2019. The varying musical influences from original members Steve Tracy (guitar, keys, vocals), Joe Miller (vocals), and Nathan Sayer (drums) created an authentic sound and song-writing process.
After celebrating 5 years playing together, the group welcomed Mark Tracy on second guitar and Jake Patkin on bass to rise to their full potential. Mark released his first self-produced album, episodes, in December 2024.
With the wisdom of friend and producer Bob Familiar, State of Nature released their second studio album, Tabula Rasa, on January 10th, 2025.
"Tabula Rasa" is a lively, fun, contemplative, and entirely authentic psychedelic rock album. Drawing inspiration from artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and the Grateful Dead, the album does well to distinguish and establish State of Nature's sound.
SoN's first album Social Contract (2020) is a concept album conveying a tale of adventure, temptation, loss, and gratitude. This was captured best in their hit song GHC. "Social Contract" was recorded entirely remotely and produced by the band's own Nathan Sayer during the COVID-19 pandemic, giving it both a unique sound and story.
Shortly thereafter, in 2021 SoN released four singles. Nirvana with Cash, Stardust Hotel, The Following Roads, and Pink and Orange captured a new, more developed sounds than the band's first project.
